Thought I'd change things up a bit with some photos of winter here on cape cod, what I've been up to, foods that made me fat this winter, fun stuff, neat stuff, etc... Photos taken with my iphone, so they aren't the best. Enjoy.
First up, the infamous Nauset Beach from cape cod national seashore. A stunning place to go to in the winter because it's so remote, quiet, raging, unpredictable, fierce and calming all at the same time. Very cold too. Even on the hottest of days in summer there is always a chill in the air along with the wind. This winter I braved it and went for a walk. It was so cold, the wind literally cuts your face. You have to be well prepared with layers of clothes and depending on the wind, a face mask. But as the old saying goes, a walk on the beach really clears the head.
There is a secret private beach club on cape cod that is a playhouse/clubhouse for the uber-rich to go to in the summer. Obviously no access is allowed in summer to the public, but this winter the gate was wide open for construction. Of course I had to sneak in and walk around--who wouldn't? This place is stunning. I'm not allowed to mention the place, where it is--I was asked not to. But here is a sneak peek of what the rich do in the summertime. This photo shoot was one of the highlights of my winter--stunning place.
the detail in masonary of this seawall was amazing.
not only are the homes on the beach, but they have a whole other section of private beach.
This winter I gained some weight....
Beautiful Dawn. Thanks for letting me look inside your world! The beach looks wonderful, but oh that food!
ReplyDeleteGreat post Dawn! I loved all the photos! Especially that maki! DROOL!
ReplyDeleteall the photos were amazing!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these photos! I would love to live there...except for how COLD it gets in the winter! Oh, and I'm not a fan of large bodies of water, LOL. It's very pretty to look at, though!
ReplyDeleteI love this - I like you, your blog, and everything about you.
ReplyDeleteThe cape is so beautiful, so rustic! I like to pretend cadbury eggs don't exist... ;) And that bully is SO cute! Steals my heart!
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos and some delicious looking food!
ReplyDeleteMust. Have. Maki. (!!!!) You made that look spectacular. (Is it wrong that I hone in on the food, instead of the very beautiful beach and other pictures? Naw, I don't really think so, either.)
ReplyDeleteUh so gorgeous! I love the seascapes. And all of the food. Well worth getting fat for.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved those weathered gray Cape Cod shingles...and they're especially beautiful in the snow. (But what kind of a person looks at this photo gallery, right down to the end, and comments on the BUILDINGS?) :)
ReplyDeleteThose pictures were cool to lookat. The food you ate this past winter---fabulous!
ReplyDeleteSuper pictures Dawns, makes we want to live there oh I do!!! I love your food pics too, come cook for me!
ReplyDeletewhat a neat private beach! awesome pics!
ReplyDeleteWhy do the rich have to be sooo snooty and secretive? Like they are hiding or cant be around us common-ers! Oh well.
ReplyDeleteLove the photos!
Aww, I used to LOVE spending days at Nauset Beach when we vacationed there! I can only imagine the wind in the winter!
ReplyDeleteLove the cupcake eating method - now I wish I had a cupcake so I could try it!
Your winter is not half as drab as you make it sound Ms. Thing. Nice pics.
ReplyDeleteWhy you say not to visit your crap town is beyond me....it looks amazing! Great shots.
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous pictures. I loved each and every one of them. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Mabel! Of course, your pictures are (always) fantastic, and Cape Cod looks beautiful even in winter, but again, I LOVE MABEL!
ReplyDeleteCHICKENS!!!!!! THE CHICKENS ARE BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLovely. I'm still intrigued by the dogs in seatbelts, though.
ReplyDeleteThat was awesome! All of it. Especially the dogs in seat belts-that cracked me up! Oh, and Mabel's person, if you're reading this--trim her nails-they look painfully long!
ReplyDeleteLove these photos! Makes me miss the Cape.
ReplyDeleteThere is something very appealing about a beach in the winter
ReplyDeleteFantastic post, Dawn! I love beaches in winter, and am now kicking myself for not making it out to the cape (or even the north or south shore) at all this season. We are heading to Truro for a family vacation over the summer, and I'm hoping to enjoy some very quiet early mornings on the beach before the tourists descend. All of the foods looks awesome, as well!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your blog. You have the most mouth-watering photos. Thanks for the pics of the beach. Breathtaking.
ReplyDeleteStunning pictures. I only went once to Cape Cod and I am dreaming of going back. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a delightful walk on the beach, especially when the sky turned bright blue for almost spring! Love the cupcake 'sandwich' too.
ReplyDeleteLove the beach shots! Looks like a wonderful winter!
ReplyDeleteDawn, I just loved this post. Thank you for sharing it. I live on the West Coast, have never been to the actual coast on the East, and so it was interesting to see. It was fun to get a glimpse into the walks that you take, too. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post, Dawn. I enjoyed every minute of my visit. What marvelous shots!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Can I come visit? :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful -even in the winter. I can't get over how much erosion there is in front of the private property. Amazing.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for summer!
i love how quiet and serene it looks :) and all that food? i don't even know where to begin. except now i'm hungry!!
ReplyDeleteYour life looks lovely. I would like to spend some time there (in your life or your town).
ReplyDeleteHappy cooking,
Elena
What an awesome selection of pictures, Cape Cod looks so idyllic. I totally want to go now.
ReplyDelete*kisses* HH
OMG, Dawn I loved this post. We spent a few days in Provincetown last June and both Randy and I wondered what the Cape looks like in the winter. You showed me beautifully. Desolate but oh so lovely. I hope we can go back soon and pay a visit to you. But only if you make me an assortment of 1/4 pound cookies. :)
ReplyDeleteHow picturesque. Love the photos, love seeing how "the other half" live, want to try the cake pop; and Mabel is ADORABLE!
ReplyDeleteI've only been to Cape Cod once, and it was eons ago. It's so atmospheric there. It always makes me think of great literature and moody films. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhere oh where did you get that Lobster and Pineapple Maki--I have a small place out on the Cape and I'll be there all next week and would love to try it
